Festival de Cannes 60th Anniversary Party by ADR Productions

(Le parc de la Roseraie)

« To each his own champagne » was the theme of the Festival de Cannes’ 60th birthday bash on Sunday sponsored by Chopard, and Gilles Jacob made sure that the bubbly flowed after the cameras rolled. Following the official 60th anniversary ceremony and screening of « To Each His Own Cinema » and an official dinner, the best of the best of the world’s directors and talents headed to Le Parc de la Roseraie to fête 60 years of Cannes with at least 60 famous faces present. A who’s who of the Gallic big screen scattered throughout the large dome, some heading to the dance floor, but most chose to schmooze outdoors. With hostesses offering mini-desserts on silver trays and servers seeming to walk by with an endless supply of already-filled champagne glasses, the ambiance was just what you’d expect from an official celebration : mellow and très, très chic thanks to Chopard’s elegant touch. The crowd was mostly French, with relatively no stars and stripes in sight. It was certainly a Gallic affaire. The bash was short-lived, with most guests opting to jump into official black cars to head to after-parties at Jimmy’z and Le Baron 3.14.

With a space as wonderful as Majestic Beach, it was no wonder stars flocked to the Fortissimo party hosted by co-chairmen Wouter Barendrecht and Michael J. Werner. But since they were stars of the indie world, you’d have to be a big film fan to know most of them.

Opening night Marché Party @ the Majestic Beach.

Shimmering in the moonlight, the champagne glasses beckoned for the annual beach party that marks the opening of the Marché du Film. The pier on the Majestic Beach was awash Wednesday night with festivalgoers and marketeers in their Riviera Finery plucking rich delicacies from the bulging trays borne by a stream of smiling youngsters. Marché director Jérôme Paillard played host to several hundred guests festing on everything from fried chicken to caviar and meatballs. It was the dawn of the 60th edition of the festival celebrated in the perfect way in a Mediterranean sunset. With the duck came a chill and less hearty souls who craved company and a little warmth sought the cheer of the marquee where a jazz ensemble sparked toe-tapping and dancing to enliven the affair. Cameras flashed from professionals working to record the evening for posterity and amateurs seeking to capture a perfect moment on the Côte d’Azur. Partygoers lingered long into the night as the champagne flowed to be chased, as it should, with that mellowest of desserts, single mal Scotch whiskey.
